 is used only within words, while Î (which has the same pronunciation) is used at the beginnings and ends of words. As such, in its capital form,  is only seen within words that are completely capitalized (e.g. ROMÂNIA). Î is still used when forming negative past participles and gerunds (e.g. neînţeles, not neânţeles)
