From Proto-Albanian *aidn(i)-, from Proto-Indo-European *Hoid- 'to swell'. Cognate to Armenian aytnowm (aytnowm, to swell), Old Norse økkr (swelling, lump, growth), Latin inguen (groin, the genitals, tumefaction in the pubic region).
