Inherited from Byzantine Greek κοιμοῦμαι (koimoûmai), κοιμᾶμαι (koimâmai), from Ancient Greek κοιμῶμαι (koimômai, “to lie down to sleep”), contracted form of κοιμάομαι (koimáomai), mediopassive of κοιμάω (koimáō).

1. to sleep (to rest in a state of reduced consciousness)
