Greek[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Learnedly, from Hellenistic Koine Greek παρεισφρέω. The ancient verb φρέω was only found in compounds. Morphologically, from παρ- +‎ εισ-+ φρέω.

Pronunciation[edit]

  • IPA(key): /pa.riˈsfre.o/
  • Hyphenation: πα‧ρει‧σφρέ‧ω

Verb[edit]

παρεισφρέω (pareisfréo) (past παρεισέφρησα, passive —)

  1. (intransitive) to infiltrate, inveigle
  2. (intransitive) to creep in, worm your way in

Usage notes[edit]

  • Appears in one of the most common misspellings: 'παρεισφρύω' instead of 'παρεισφρέω', because of the similarity to its synonym εισδύω
