From the modern περπατώ (perpató) περπατ- + -άω (-áo), inherited from the mediaeval Byzantine Greek περπατῶ (perpatô), from the Ancient Greek περιπατῶ (peripatô)/περιπατέω (peripatéō) < περι- (peri-) + πατῶ (patô), contracted form of πατέω (patéō).
