From the present participle грядущий (grjaduščij, approaching), from грясти (grjasti, to be coming, to be approaching) (грядёт (grjadjót)), from Old East Slavic грѧсти (grѧsti), from Proto-Slavic *gręsti (to go), from Proto-Indo-European *gʰrHdʰ-.
