Bulgarian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Old Church Slavonic късьно (kŭsĭno), adverb from късьнъ (kŭsĭnŭ); compare the verb оукъснѣти (ukŭsněti, to be late) and the noun закъснѣние (zakŭsněnie, laziness). късно (kǎsno) and the adjective късен (kǎsen) are compounds from the preposition къ (k, to) and the dative of сън (sǎn, dream, sleep). It was originally used to indicate someone who comes too late because he/she failed to wake on time.[1] Possible cognates include Serbo-Croatian kasno (late), Russian ко́сный (kósnyj, inert, lifeless), Lithuanian kušlas (weak, tired), Latvian kusu (tired).
