Inherited from Old East Slavic лꙑчьнꙑи (lyčĭnyi), from Proto-Slavic *lyčьnъ, from *lyko (bast) + *-ьnъ. By surface analysis, лы́ко (lýko) +‎ -ный (-nyj).
