From Classical Mongolian ᠨᠡᠷ᠎ᠡ (ner-e), from Middle Mongol [Term?], Proto-Mongolic *nere. Cognate with Buryat нэрэ (nere), Kalmyk нерн (nern), Dongxiang niere, etc.
