From the verb совершить (to accomplish, to effect), from Old Church Slavonic and Common Slavonic съврьшити, from со- + Old Church Slavonic връшити from Proto-Indo-European *wers-. Also related to Old Russian вьрхъ, Common Slavonic врьхъ, Modern Russian верх.
