Russian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

Unclear. Brückner finds a parallel in Sanskrit क्षीयते (kṣīyate, diminish). However, derivation from Proto-Indo-European *dʰgʷʰey- is dismissed by Vasmer as unreliable.
