Etymology[edit]

Reduplication of ազ- (az-), probably from Proto-Indo-European *h₂(H)s-gʰ- and cognate with Gothic 𐌰𐌶𐌲𐍉 (azgo, ash). Related to աճիւն (ačiwn).
