Armenian[edit]

Alternative forms[edit]

Etymology[edit]

The origin is uncertain. Ačaṙyan notes that this cannot be related to Old Armenian ալարել (alarel, to be ashamed) due to the difference in meaning. J̌ahukyan initially considered the relation possible, but later changed his mind.
