An Iranian borrowing. Compare Avestan [script needed] (apaharəzana, dismissal), composed of [script needed] (apa-, away) and [script needed] (harəz-, to dismiss, to let) = Persian هلیدن (hilīdan, to dismiss). Cognate with Sanskrit अपसर्जन (apasarjana, abandonment).
