Etymology[edit]

The root is արած- (arac-), possibly from Proto-Indo-European *treh₂ǵ- with a prothetic ա- (a-) and cognate with Ancient Greek τρώγω (trṓgō, chew, eat), τράγος (trágos, he-goat). Certainly related to արօտ (arōt).
