Etymology [edit]

From Arabic عرق (ʕáraq), which literally means “sweat, perspiration”. The Arabic word is also the source of English arak (an aniseed-flavoured alcoholic drink, produced and consumed primarily in the Middle East). Borrowed also into Georgian as არაყი (araqi).
