From Akkadian 𒊕𒁺, 𒊕, 𒌋𒅗 (qaqqadu, head, top, skull), from Proto-Semitic *qadqad, whence also Hebrew קדקוד (qādqōd, the part of head covered with hair) and Ugaritic 𐎖𐎄𐎖𐎄 (qdqd).
