Etymology [edit]

From Parthian *gōsān. Attested in Persian as گوسان (gōsān) and کوسان (kōsān), from Middle Persian *kōsān, *gōsān. The origin of the Parthian word is uncertain; according to Ačaṙyan it is derived from Armenian գովասան (govasan, praiser).
