Etymology [edit]

From Proto-Indo-European *dʰeh₁s-. Cognates include Ancient Greek θεός (theos), Latin fēriae (festival days), fānum (temple). The combining form դիւց- may have arisen from contamination with դիւ-, combining form of դեւ, or with Proto-Armenian *tiw (god); see տիւ (day).
