The first component is երա- (era-, first, early, before), from Proto-Indo-European *prH- (early); cognate with Ancient Greek πρωΐ (prōḯ), Sanskrit प्रातर् (prātár, early, in the morning, the next day), Latin prae. The second is խայրի (xayri) +‎ (-kʿ).
