Etymology[edit]

The root is երեւ- (erew-), from Proto-Indo-European *prep- or *kʷrep-. Cognates include Ancient Greek πρέπω (prépō, to be clearly seen), Old High German furben (to clean), Old Irish richt (shape), Welsh rhith (species). Related to երես (eres, face).
