From Middle Iranian *rēvār/d, *rēβar/d, from Iranian *rīya(t)-vār(i)- (emitting seminal fluid), from *rī- (to flow; to defecate; to soil); compare Persian ریدن (rīdan, to defecate), Sanskrit रीति (rīti, stream). For the second part see վարուժան (varužan).
