Etymology 2[edit]

Probably from Old Armenian թամբք (tʻambkʻ) and so a by-form of թամք (tʻamkʻ, saddle; body of a cart). Possibly contaminated with թափք (tʻapʻkʻ, sheath, scabbard): for the sense association compare Russian кузов (kuzov, basket; body of a carriage).
