Etymology[edit]

A reduplication of Old Armenian *մուղ- (*muł-, grinding, crushing) or *մող- (*moł-) or another descendant of Proto-Indo-European *melh₂- (to grind) related to *մուլ- (*mul-, grinding, crushing). For the semantics compare Russian моль (molʹ) : молоть (molotʹ), Old Norse mǫlr (moth) : mala (to grind).
