From Middle Median *nižōg or Parthian *nižōg, from Proto-Iranian *nižauga- (male horse, literally ejecting seminal fluid), from the prefix *niž- (out, away) + the participle of *aug-/*auǰ- (to be wet; to emit fluids; to sprinkle). See also վարուժան (varužan).
