From Proto-Indo-European *h₃orǵʰ-i- +‎ (-kʿ). Cognates include Ancient Greek ὄρχις (órkhis), Avestan 𐬆𐬭𐬆𐬰𐬌 (ǝrǝzi, testicles), Hittite [script?] (arki-, testicle), Albanian herdhe, and Middle Irish uirgge (testicle). See also յորձ (yorj).
