Old Armenian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From վայր (vayr, place; short span of time) +‎ -իկ (-ik, diminutive suffix). The original meaning of վայր (vayr) is “place”. For the development of the sense of “time” from the sense of “place” compare ատեան (atean).
