From Middle Iranian *taxtak. Compare Middle Persian tʾhtk' (taxtag, tablet, plank, (chess) board), Persian تخته (taxte). The sense of “bed” could be an inner-Armenian diminutive formation: տախտ (taxt) +‎ -ակ (-ak).
