   ցորեն է թե՞ գարի ― cʻoren ē tʻe^? gari ― (literally: Is it wheat or barley?) used when a baby is born: Is it a boy or a girl?

   ցորեն հաց որ չունես, ցորեն լեզու էլ չունես ― cʻoren hacʻ or čʻunes, cʻoren lezu ēl čʻunes ― (literally: When you don't have wheat bread, you also don't have a wheat tongue) If you are too poor to have anything to offer, you should at least be kind.
