Verb[edit]

הוֹסִיף (hosíf) (hif'íl construction)

  1. To add (something) to (something else).
    למה לא הוסיפו מלפפון?láma ló hosífu m'laf'fón? — Why didn't they add cucumber?
  2. (archaic) Coordinated with another verb to indicate that the action of that verb "adds" in some way.
    • Book of Genesis 25:1:
      וַיֹּסֶף אַבְרָהָם וַיִּקַּח אִשָּׁה וּשְׁמָהּ קְטוּרָה׃
      vayósef avrahám vayikákh ishá ush'máh k'turá.
      Then again Abraham took [literally And Abraham added and took] a wife, and her name [was] Keturah.[1]
