Etymology[edit]
From the Babylonian Talmud Kidushín chapter 1, where a verse from Scripture is brought as a proof, the practice in Judea is brought as another with the introductory word ועוד (“and furthermore”), and the Talmud challenges: יהודה ועוד לקרא (“Judea is an 'and furthermore' to Scripture?”).
