Etymology[edit]

From רבי (rebe, rabbi) +‎ ־ין (-in, feminine suffix). The צ ("ts") is likely only present as an intervocalic separator, although it may be interpreted as the remains of a Slavic feminine suffix, akin to Russian -ица (-ica).
