Hebrew[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From the root ר־ח־ץ (r-ḥ-TS).

Verb[edit]

רָחַץ (racháts) (pa'ál construction)

  1. (transitive) To wash, to clean by washing, as an object or a body part.

Usage notes[edit]

  • Unlike English wash, this is not an ergative verb; an English sentence like “I don't like washing in cold water” would in Hebrew use the verb התרחץ (hitrachéts, wash (oneself)).
