Etymology[edit]

Blend of שְׁנֵי (sh'néi, two) +‎ שֶׁקֶל (shékel, sheqel). The word was invented during a radio game on the Israeli Galei Tzahal station in December 2007, when the two-new-sheqel piece was first introduced.
