From Parthian tāg, attested in 𐫟𐫀𐫡𐫤𐫀𐫃 (xʾrtʾg /⁠xārtāg⁠/, crown of thorns), from Old Iranian *tāga-. Compare Arabic تاج (tāj) and Armenian թագ (tʻag).
