- to assure someone of (إِلَى (ʔilā) something)
- to confirm, to corroborate (a view, report, fact, etc.)
- to confirm, ratify (an agreement, engagement, etc.)
- to say (with certainty), to state as true, to assert
- to affirm, to maintain (a belief, idea, etc.)
- to emphasize, to stress (عَلَى (ʕalā) something, أَنَّ (ʔanna) that ...)
- to bind firmly (a horse's or camel's saddle)

According to Lane, the more correct verb to use in place of this one is وَكَّدَ (wakkada), with similar meanings.
