From Arabic طَرْخُون (ṭarḵūn), from Ancient Greek δρακόντιον (drakóntion, edder-wort). Or from another Iranian language and derived from the cognate to Persian تلخ (talx, bitter), compare Dari ترخ, طرخ (tarx, terx), ترخه, طرخه (tarxa, terxa, any Artemisia), Pashto ترخه f (tarxa, terxa, any Artemisia), homonymic to the feminine of تریخ (trix, bitter).
