From the root ح د ث (ḥ-d-ṯ). Related to Hebrew חָדָשׁ (khadásh, ḥāḏāš) and Amharic አዲስ (ʾäddis), Ugaritic 𐎈𐎄𐎘 (ḥdṯ) and Aramaic חֲדַת (ḥăḏaṯ).
