Etymology[edit]

Coined more than 300 years ago by a family in the central part of Iran. The word “Nankali” is derived from a combination of two words, نان (nān, bread) and کلی (kali, immense)[1]. Nankali as a word means breadwinner, the member of a household who earns all or most of the income.
