Etymology[edit]

From ܚܒܪܐ (ḥaḇrā(ʾ), companion), from the root ܚ-ܒ-ܪ (IPA(key): /ħ-b-r/) related to companionship + the abstract noun ending ܘܬܐ- (-ūṯā(ʾ)). Compare Hebrew חֲבֵרוּת (ḥăḇērûṯ).
