Etymology[edit]

From earlier Vedic Sanskrit आसत् (ā́sat), from Proto-Indo-Aryan *áHsant, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *áHsant, from Proto-Indo-European *n̥-h₁sónts, from *n̥- (not, un-) + *h₁sónts (being, existence). Equivalent to अ- (a-) +‎ सत् (sat).
