Etymology[edit]

Vedic ṛtá together with Avestan aṣ̌a (truth) derives from Proto-Indo-Iranian *artá- (truth), from a Proto-Indo-European *h₂r-to- stem, formed from *h₂er- (to join properly) (the *ar root of आर्य arya).
