Etymology[edit]

From Sanskrit ज्वल् (jval, to burn brightly, blaze, glow, shine). Compare with Ancient Greek ζῆλος (zêlos, zeal, jealousy), from which Late Latin zelosus and ultimately English zeal are derived.
