From Proto-Indo-European *peḱu- (livestock, domestic animals). Cognates include Latin pecus ‘cattle’, Old Armenian ասր (asr, fleece), Old English feoh, Old Norse , Gothic 𐍆𐌰𐌹𐌷𐌿 and Lithuanian pēkus ‘cattle’.
