Etymology[edit]

Borrowed from Classical Persian روزه (rōza). First attested as Old Hindi रोजा (rojā). Compare Assamese ৰোজা (rüza), Bengali রোজা (rōja), Gujarati રોજો (rojo), Marathi रोजा (rojā), Punjabi ਰੋਜ਼ਾ (rozā).
