From Proto-Indo-Iranian, from Proto-Indo-European *wes- (to dress). Cognate with Avestan vaste, vaŋhaiti, Ancient Greek ἕννυμι (hénnumi), ἐνδύομαι (endúomai), Tocharian B wäs-, Latin vestis, Albanian vesh, Old English werian (English wear).
