Etymology[edit]
From กรุง (grung, “city”) + เทพ (têep, “god”); shortened from กรุงเทพมหานคร (grung-têep-má-hǎa-ná-kɔɔn, literally “celestial city”). The last symbol ฯ is an abbreviation indicator.
