From Armenian կիր (kir, lime), from Old Armenian կիր (kir), itself is a derivative from Akkadian 𒌋𒀜 (kīru), from Sumerian 𒌋𒀜 (gir, oven, kiln). Compare Hebrew גיר (gír, lime), Aramaic ܓܝܪ/גיר (gīr), Arabic جير (jīr) and Persian borrowing کرس (kirs) (whence also Turkish kireç).
