Etymology[edit]
From Old Georgian ფარი (pari).[1] An Iranian borrowing. Compare Old Armenian պահ (pah, “watch, guard”) and Middle Persian 𐫛𐫀𐫍𐫡 (pʾhr /pāhr/, “watch-post”).
Additionally, however, Klimov considers, that ფარავს (paravs, “to cover”), ფარული (paruli, “hidden”) and others are instead descendants of Proto-Kartvelian *par- ~ *pr- (“to cover”).[2]
