Georgian[edit]

Etymology[edit]

From Old Georgian ფარი (pari).[1] An Iranian borrowing. Compare Old Armenian պահ (pah, watch, guard) and Middle Persian 𐫛𐫀𐫍𐫡 (pʾhr /pāhr/, watch-post).

Additionally, however, Klimov considers, that ფარავს (paravs, to cover), ფარული (paruli, hidden) and others are instead descendants of Proto-Kartvelian *par- ~ *pr- (to cover).[2]
