Simplified in the Heian period from the man'yōgana kanji 加.

1. The [ka] phoneme, typically in words of non-Japanese origin.
2. The sixth character in the gojūon ordering of katakana. The previous character is オ and the next character is キ. The equivalent hiragana character is か.
